Medical Evacuation
Evacuating sick people and people with special needs
33
special cases handled
With medical evacuation, we help people with a wide range of physical and mental conditions. Transportation of these people requires an individual approach and a greater coordination effort. We deal with these cases one by one and help transport people to a safer region or to an institution for further treatment or surgery.
In normal times, these patients would have access to an established health system with advice and treatment. Nowadays they are often left behind, sometimes in a desperate survival mode.
Case by case, we learn about evacuee’s immediate and longer term needs, search for medical advice and a destination for treatment, raise the necessary funds, plan the details, and execute.
If evacuation can't be done by bus due to severe physical disabilities and inability to travel sitting up, we arrange a special transport with medical assistance, sometimes with a medical doctor.
Each case requires independent and personal assessment. We undertake a detailed investigation of their medical and psychological condition, and take into account the family situation and history.
Israel4Ukraine pays all accommodation and transportation expenses during the trip, assists with document processing, and coordinates the entire process for entry into a suitable hospital, nursing home, hospice, or refugee center.
As of October 2022, Israel4Ukraine has directly evacuated almost thirty people with special medical needs.
We would not be able to do this on our own as medical evacuations can only be accomplished in coordination with organizations with unique medical expertise. We’ve established strong mutual trustworthy relationships with several organizations and volunteers from around the world and and would like to express our sincere gratitude to them - Janna Dryha, Evegeny Neymer, Purple Vests Mission, Irena Leshchuk, Frida Ukraine, Homanosh, Ukrainian Angels Foundation, Gene Volchenko, Tesla Netherlands, and many more. Thank you for your help and collaboration.
From the Field
Helping People. Saving Lives.
We are ordinary people volunteering in our free time. It so happens that most of us are in Israel, but there are also volunteers in Ukraine, Russia, the UK, the Czech Republic, Poland, and the USA. It's not important who we are and where we are from. What is important is that we are all humans united by one idea: helping people in Ukraine to leave for a safer place or to survive while staying.
